A Little About Me
I fell in love with books in my mother’s arms, as she read me stories every night. When I learned how to write, I wanted to turn my own stories into books – bundles of stapled sheets that I would give to family and friends to read. I quickly realised that writing was where my ideas came together most clearly, and that through fiction I could better understand life and help others understand it too.
When it came time to apply for university, I chose Communication Sciences. I wanted to communicate through writing, and the degree allowed me to explore Journalism, Dramaturgy and Screenwriting.
I published my first few novels in the year 2000, around the same time that I also began working as a screenwriter on television fiction projects – still one of the great adventures that still fills my days.
Motherhood rekindled my love for children’s stories, and I have since published several books and collections for children and young readers – As Gémeas (Saint Clair’s), Alerta Emoções (Emotion Alert), Escola das Artes (School of the Arts), A Garrafa Mágica (The Magic Bottle), among many others, which I frequently present in schools and libraries across the country, where I always learn back more than what I give. Currently, I am also pursuing a PhD in Education to investigate the impact of children’s books on the development of empathy.
I have also worked in the editing and proofreading of non-fiction books, wrote several investigative journalism titles, and returned to the novels with D. Estefânia – Um Trágico Amor (A Tragic Love) (2012), D. Teresa de Távora – A Amante do Rei (The King’s Mistress) (2013), and O Quanto Amei – Fernando Pessoa e as Mulheres da Sua Vida (How Much I Loved – Fernando Pessoa and the Women in His Life) (2021). I am currently working on a new novel and belong to Clube das Mulheres Escritoras (Women Writers Club).
From time to time, I explore other lives that connect me to reality – that of an entrepreneur, television show host, or social activist – but it is through telling stories that encourage people to reflect on reality that I feel most fulfilled.
